The 52-year-old urged, "every little kid in Kirkby that has a dream, please don't give up on it".
But his message didn't stop there. Graham also extended his heartfelt advice to parents. He passionately pleaded with them to shower their children with affection and, crucially, to listen to them. "I want to say to every parent, please give your kid a massive cuddle. Tell them how much you love them and listen to them when they want to talk to you," he emphasized. He further added, "Make sure the bedroom door is always open and make sure you communicate with each other."
This isn't the first time Graham has used his platform to inspire. He echoed similar sentiments earlier this year when receiving an Emmy Award for Adolescence in September 2025. Describing himself as "just a mixed-race kid from Kirkby," he expressed disbelief at his success, stating, "This kind of thing doesn't happen to a kid like me." He continued, "So for me, to be here today, in front of my peers and to be acknowledged by you is the utmost humbling thing I could ever imagine in my life and it shows you that any dream is possible."
Adolescence, co-written by Graham and Jack Thorne, tackles a difficult and timely subject: the impact of smartphones and social media on teenagers. The show centers around a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering a female classmate. This gritty drama has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its unflinching portrayal of the pressures faced by young people in the digital age.
The show wasn't just a success for Graham; it was a triumph for the entire cast. Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty also took home Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. In fact, Adolescence swept the Emmy Awards last year, winning a total of eight awards. Cooper, at the young age of 16, even made history as the youngest male to ever win an Emmy!
