Lucinda Brand Dominates UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup Koksijde with Record 8th Win (2026)

UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup Koksijde: Lucinda Brand's Dominance Continues with Eighth Consecutive Win

Lucinda Brand's winning streak continued on Sunday as she claimed her eighth consecutive victory at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup's sixth round in Koksijde. Brand, riding for Baloise-Glowi Lions, took the lead early on and never looked back, leaving her competitors in the dust.

The Race Unfolds

Following the previous day's race in Antwerp, the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup's first double World Cup weekend of the season continued with the Duinencross in the sandy terrain of Koksijde, Belgium. The course had been modified since the previous year's edition, returning to Koksijde's traditional circuit with more sections of sand to navigate.

Aniek van Alphen from Seven Racing got the best start, hitting the mud before anyone else. However, Lucinda Brand, the rider of the moment and Saturday's winner, was also quick off the line, and the two quickly pulled away from the rest of the pack. As the first of five laps of the 3.65km course progressed, Brand seemed to find her rhythm, riding in places where others were forced off their bikes.

Brand's Strategy

Brand's strategy was to eke out a tiny advantage at the front with each lap, and by the third lap, she was eight seconds ahead of her teammate, Shirin van Anrooij, with Aniek van Alphen a further 20 seconds behind. The race was won by the time the fourth lap began, with Van Anrooij more than 20 seconds back and Van Alphen defending her third place almost a minute behind Brand. However, as the final lap approached, Van Alphen was caught by Puck Pieterse and Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, setting the stage for a thrilling final-lap battle for the podium.

The Final Sprint

Pieterse seemed safe in second place, but the other two riders battled hard, catching her late on. The three women entered the finishing straight together, but Pieterse, out of energy, was unable to contest the sprint. Brand, with her eighth consecutive win, continues to dominate the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup, leaving her competitors in awe and her fans cheering.

Controversy and Thoughts

Brand's dominance has sparked debates among cycling enthusiasts. Some argue that her success is a result of her exceptional talent and hard work, while others question whether the course design favors riders like Brand who are more comfortable in sandy conditions. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with the controversial interpretation that Brand's wins are due to the course's design? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
